Artists and sportspeople present rare and very rare animals in Citizen Conservation's Creature Podcast

Voices for Species Diversity

In light of the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, 2020, Citizen Conservation was supposed to be presented to the general public in various zoos to call attention to the biodiversity crisis. This did not happen as planned. The world is now in the grasp of the Corona crisis. We are all feeling its consequences – in our professional and everyday lives. There’s hardly anyone whose plans have not been overturned, Citizen Conservation included. Since the zoos are currently closed, the planned actions cannot be carried out in May.

No Lockdown for Species Extinction

But even if the pandemic is currently overshadowing all other issues, the massive extinction of species is not on lockdown. This is why we are now using other platforms to remind humanity of the challenge we’re facing. At the same time, we are providing an optimistic distraction from the virus and the tedious time at home: the “creature podcast” (in German language), with informative, humorous and thoughtful contributions about various species, the survival of which has only been successful – and can only continue to be successful – through breeding in human care.

Familiar Voices for Rare Animals

Rare species, introduced by well-known speakers such as the author Wladimir Kaminer (Russian Disco), songwriter Reinhard Mey, the soccer legend Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund), actress Katharina Wackernagel, singer Dirk von Lowtzow (Tocotronic), storyteller Horst Evers, songwriter Dota Kehr (“Kleingeldprinzessin“) and the legendary Supatopcheckerbunny from the Bunny Lectures). Very different voices for the diversity of species, from the northern bald ibis to the Darwin frog, from the volcano rabbit to the Lord Howe island stick insect, from the fire salamander to the pangolin. The first episode of the creature podcast will be released on our YouTube channel on April 14th. We are planning weekly episodes from now on – with or without the Corona lockdown.
