From a global perspective, 2024 didn’t exactly move the world forward. It is therefore all the more pleasing to read about this year in a largely positive light – because at least when it comes to Frogs & Friends and Citizen Conservation, we can look back with satisfaction.

As CC continues to be managed by Frogs & Friends as part of a management agreement, we are once again publishing the annual reports of both organisations in one.
With CC in the house of amphibians
The major event was undoubtedly the opening of the Amphibium designed by Frogs & Friends at Hannover Adventure Zoo – a modern exhibition with the aim of awakening a fascination for amphibians and an understanding of the need to protect them in nature and in human care, at the end of which everything converges towards CC. Because everyone can help to save endangered species! It took three years of work and a good two million euros to realise this vision, which was presented to the public a year ago, in May 2024, and has since inspired tens of thousands of visitors. By the way: If you want to find out more about it, you can do so in the next few days in Frogs & Friends’ own magazine with the lovely name “Darwin & Goliath”.

The goal number of breeders and individuals have already been reached for some of the programmes.

Citizen Conservation was well represented in the media in 2024.

The tenth anniversary of the shareholder Frogs & Friends is naturally a topic in the joint annual report.
Species protection through conservation breeding
In 2024, one focus of CC’s conservation breeding activities was once again the fire salamander, of which we now manage several breeding lines. Together with Frogs & Friends, we have also taken an important first step towards national coordination of the numerous local activities by taking the initiative to found Feuersalamander.NET.
We have already reached our target numbers for some fish and amphibian species and have now entered the long-term population management stage. And CC’s reptile programmes are also gradually coming to life.
Media reactions
The impressive press review that we document in the annual report shows that our idea of communicating the benefits of conservation breeding to the general public via CC is working. Not only were we once again guests on television and radio, CC was also the subject of various articles and was discussed.
All of this can be downloaded here free of charge and will also be available in printed form for all interested parties.
